Prof. Rui Reis received the Medal of Honour from Guimarães City Hall, having also been attributed the Title of Honorary Citizen of the city.
This title was also attributed to the former president of Guimarães City Hall, Dr. António Magalhães. This is the first time that this title is attributed in Guimarães. The ceremony took place on the 24th of June at 17h30 at CCVF, in Guimarães, on the scope of the celebrations of S. Mamede Battle (Day one of Portugal).
Prof. Rui Reis appointed as Commander of the Ordem Militar de Sant'Iago de Espada (kind of "Knighthood") by the President of the Portuguese Republic on the scope of the celebrations of Portugal National Day, taking place on June 10th, this year in the city of Guarda.
The Ordem Militar de Sant’Iago da Espada is appointed in order to distinguish the merit in literature, science and arts and represents one more important distinction of merit attributed to Prof. Rui Reis for his contributions to science and internationalization

Prof. Rui L. Reis receives the Clemson Award for Contributions to the literature in the Society for Biomaterials (USA) meeting in Denver. He was introduced by Prof. Buddy Ratner (UWashington, Seattle) one of his nominators and received the award from a representative of Clemson University and Prof. Nicholas Peppas (UTexas at Austin) the chair of this year's SFB Awards Committee.
This one of the most prestigious awards in the World in the field of biomaterials.
