The activity of the 3B´s Research Group of University of Minho is based on a brand new facility that is also the Headquarters of the European Institute of Excellence for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. The activities of this European Institute are coordinated by the 3B´s – U. Minho. The state-of-the-art research facility which opened in July 2008, is an independent building just dedicated to the activities of the 3B´s and the European Institute of Excellence. It was designed to enable basic and applied research in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). The infrastructure is driven by cross-discipline and multi-disciplinarily, intended to support optimal use of facilities for education, outreach experiments, research and technology development. The laboratory facilities that were fully designed for TERM research occupy 3600 square-meters and offer investigators the opportunity to work together in a well-designed and very functional space. It includes wet chemical and biological laboratories for research teams as well as common labs for instrumentation and biomaterials/scaffolds development, modification and processing. The building also includes facilities for entrepreneurial activities of the 3B´s research group, as well as a specific animal facility. The facilities operate and function based on the core philosophy of open-access, hands-on training, collaboration and assistance. 3B´s researchers have access to an extensive array of equipment and laboratories.
