Background:

I am a physicist with a PhD and MSc in Nanoscience with broad postdoctoral expertise in biophysics. My research mainly focuses in understanding the mechanistic determinants of tumor growth and progression, particularly how cell-cell/ECM interactions control cancer cell motility and invasion. For this aim, I am using microfabrication and cell biology tools to develop innovative (multi-) organ-on-chip platforms and engineered models to improve our current understanding of tumorigenesis.

Research Area:

Cancer models; Biophysics; Lab/Organ-on-chip; Cell Migration; Metastasis; Biomechanics; Nanotechnology; Bioengineering; Microfabrication; Modelling biological phenomena; Biosensors; Functionalization; Diagnostics; Drug Screening.

Project:
Reversing cancer cachexia: understanding the role of micro/nano-vesicles in disease genesis and progression for better treatment response (RECOVER; https://3bs.uminho.pt/research-projects/976)
