Description: The Microscopy & Flow Cytometry Laboratory is equipped with a Zeiss Stemi 2000 stereomicroscope, a Zeiss Axio Imager Z1m microscope and a BD FACSCalibur cytometer. Overall it allows the preliminary structural analysis of biomaterials specimens, such as three-dimensional structures for tissue engineering applications, obtained from different processing methodologies and the follow up of its subsequent biological in vitro and in vivo characterization. A reproducible microscopic examination of the biological performance of the developed biomaterials as well as of the diverse primary and stem cell populations isolated from several sources can be accomplished with bright field, using either transmitted or reflected light, and fluorescence after appropriate cell staining. A full and complementary characterization of cell (sub-)populations of interest can be carried out by multiparametric flow cytometry analysis.
